funny, I was searching for this today, I have this same problem with my 1990 S13.

Only the right (passenger) works on low beam and on high beam, only the left (driver) works. Sometimes when the brights are on, or when the switch is pulled back towards the steering wheel (to flash high beams), both will work. I think my problem is in the switch itself. When the switch is between the low beams and the flash high beam position (wish I knew a better term for this) they both will work, but since that isn't a proper position ones goes off again.

AutoZone sells the switch for around $50, or try a junkyard.

I'll let you know if I fix it soon.

Anybody else have this problem?

Bump.

OH yeah, something I might do tonight is switch the bulbs and see if that changes the problem. if it does, then its probably the bulbs, but if the problem persists , it's either the connections at the bulb or the switch

now you mean the switch you turn to make the headlights come up right? not the switch you push to make them come up right?

how do you take that switch off anyway? i havent drove that car in a long a** time, the switch for the headlights is on the turn signal isnt it?

and when you get the switch from autozone is it the whole lever or what?

yeah, the switch is beneath the steering column and behind the steering wheel, it controls the headlights, the brights, and the turn signals; it is the whole "lever". i've never taken off the steering column cover, but it doesn't look too difficult. the wiring harness just snaps in. i need to do this myself.

OK! Okinawa180, I followed the instructions on the tutorial above ^; it fixed my brights but not the driver side low beam...replaced the headlamp and BOOM! it's fixed. should have done this a long time ago. don't buy a new switch, it isn't worth it.

{sorry for all the posts, i've been maxed out on caffeine for a few days.}

oh wow, thanks alot! that actually seems like it may be whats causing it!

where did you get the dremel brush from? you said you changed the headlights out and it fixed the other problem? are those headlights cheap?

Okinawa...I actually didn't use a Dremel tool; I used a razor blade and steel wool to clean the connections. I thought that this process would fix the problem, but after I only realized that it fixed only the high beams...one of the low beams was actually blown. I replaced the headlamp for a Sylvania one for under $10
