94 Q45

Hey fellas,Been been having some issues with headlights. The driver side was going out intermittantly and permanently. Light bulb checked okay. I found a headlight relay unit from junkyard, changed it and evrythng was okay. Okay for about a month then the same thing again. Again the driver side headlight is out at 100% of the time. Could it be another bad healight relay. I thought these hardly go bad!!?? Did I have bad luck picking another bad headlight relay?Or should I be looking into something else?

THanks

When you said the "bulb checked out OK" do you mean you replaced it and the new one had the same issue? Or you swapped them side to side and had the same problem? (e.g. problem didn't follow the bulb)

It's very common for headlight bulbs to fail in an intermittant manner - so if you haven't replaced them I would try that... Otherwise it's time to start checking the circuit with a mulitmeter.

Relay failures are pretty rare on the Q45s, but you can't rule it out. I believe the headlight switch switches each side separately, so it could be a bad/dirty stalk switch as well.

Higher than oem wattage or non standard bulbs destroy bulb socket and wiring.

non standard bulbs off Ebay. I know I know, no bashing please. However prior to current problem and with regular off the counter bulbs still had same issue.

Maxnix: I swear I was thinking of it being a dirty switch. I guess that's what I'll do first this weekend.

thanks

Then all bets are off!

You must use Sylvania (SilverStars are best)!

The sockets get old and need to be cleaned of corrosion... check that out. Solved one of my issues with the tail lights

They are a higher color temp than standard halogen... but no comparison to HID side by side. Of course, nothing is...

Interesting.I put 100 watt high beam bulbs in my '94 Q45t within two weeks after I bought it in '96. They were great. When I traded the car in on my '05 Q45 in 2007, they still worked fine.

I highly recommend them for anyone with a G50 that does much night driving, especially where traffic is light enough to allow much high beam use. Not sure about '97-2001.
