i read the FAQ and found a guy who had the same problem as me. his lights pop up, but they dont go down. heres what the faq sed to do..

There is that pesky light switch on the left side of the steering wheel. If you push it, your headlights will go up and not turn on. In your case, try pushing it and seeing if it makes your headlights go down. If not, here’s what the manual says:

Manual Operation of Headlight Doors:

1.- Turn OFF both headlight switch and retractable headlight switch.2.- Disconnect the battery negative terminal.3.- Look for the motors that drive the headlights. They're round and tucked up against the front of the engine compartment and next to the headlight4.- Remove the motor shaft cap.5.- Turn the motor counterclockwise BY HAND until the headlights open or close.6.- Reinstall the motor shaft cap and connect the battery cable.

i tried the light switch that makes them pop up and not light up, it worked.. it popped em up, but when i pressed the switch again, the lights didnt go down. next, i made sure that light switch was off, and i made sure the switch to turn the lgiths on was off also, then i turned off the car (keys were in the ignitiion). poped the hood with the lights beign popped up, then i disconnected the negative termnial (the wire on the right wit the yellow stripe right?). and u turned the motor knobs counter clock wise and pushed the lights down until they were down completely. then i put the caps on and fastened the negative wire back on, started the car, turned on the lights using the light switch up to high beam, then i turned em off, but the lights didnt go down. :(

yea so those steps didnt work.. maybe theres something im missing, or someone got anything to add? please help!

That switch is not there to be "pesky". It is there to clean the lights and to change bulbs.

About your problem, I'm not sure what to do. Nothing last forever and eventually they will fail. There must be a reason that no one makes them any more because everyone likes the look. Almost all of the older firebirds have the same problem. Of course that is American enginering compared to Japanese.

My Driver side light stayed up the same way. I tried pulling it apart to see if there was any thing wrong (not a good idea). Nissan wanted 150+ for the motor and control unit, i instead went to a junk yard and got the complete head light unit (light, top cover, mounting bracket, motor and controller) for 120. and from the looks of it, doing the hole thing together is fare easier then pulling the motor and control unit from the head light.

the firebirds that had that problem were operated by a vaccuum..not by a motor..theoretically ours should have ten million less problems-

Hey, so tell me more about this lazy eye conversion... how does one go about making the eyes lazy??? I have a busted motor mount, it goes up almost all the way, but slips at the highest point. I figure, what a great excuse to get the old lazy eye effect, but how...........

NEVERMIND..NEVERMIND.... I ASKED BEFORE I LOOKED.. OOPS.
