I did it! Bought a unified ballast (all 03-07 Nissan products). They're smaller than ours (2002 Q45) so I was able to take apart and hollow out my original ballast assembly, then solder the original plug from the ballast to the leads from the new one so it uses the stock power supply. But you will have to get a new wire harness from the ballast to the headlight (get the longer one) as soldering my old headlight plug to the new harness didn't work.

I have pics of the process but not a way to post them.

Excellent! Sometimes we have to get creative as our vehicles age. Any idea what you have into it - time & money?

If you want, send me the pics to [REDACTED] and I'll post them for you. Otherwise, Nicoclub requires you post the pics to a photo hosting site like imgur/photobucket etc first... then post the share links here.

I think the ballast was less than $60 (new on eBay from Japan). The longer harness was about $15. Getting the bumper far enough off to remove the headlight was easier than I thought: less than an hour (there is a turtorial vid on this forum showing you where the hard to get to bolts are). Probably another hour or two figuring out how the heck to get my new round peg to fit this square hole...hopefully these pics will save someone a lot of time. There is a lot of cutting, shaving, and grinding. I was concerned all the vibration from the jig saw would damage the new ballast, but it's still going strong.

Congratulations! Nice pictures! :dblthumb:

Did you ever think about purchasing a DS2 kit for your vehicle? My driver side low beam is out and it did not work just buying a bulb, so I'm assuming the ballast is out. I will do a search here, but I want more information about the conversion kits, as I need something ASAP!

Conversion kits were way more expensive and I heard there could be light quality issues because of where the bulb sits in the housing.
