Have an '08 Rogue SL with the HID headlights. On unlit roads I constantly feel like I'm over driving the headlights.

Now I'm familiar with the little adjustment knob under the AWD control to the left of the steering wheel to LOWER the beams... what I would like to do is aim the headlights just a tad higher. Can't find anything about it in the manual or on the forums. Has anyone figured out how to do this?

I am not sure about the HID headlights, but on any headlights, you have a bolt behind the assembly in order to move it up or down a bit.

The bolt is not easy to reach but if you look from the top, you will see a dented aluminum round shape. With a screwdriver, you will be able to turn the bolt clockwise or counterclockwise to move the assembly up or down.

From what I remember, start by looking at the passenger side as I think it is easier to find than the driver side.

I don't know offhand, but I'm sure it's in the factory service manual.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check out that link when i get home later. I do see the adjustment bolts...just dont know which way to go for up, and whether or not they adjust the low and high beams or just highbeams, etc.

I never remember myself, and I am a little dyslectic on that part. That is why I usually turn on the light against a wall and turn on one side (counting how many dents I turn) and watch if it goes up or down.

As for the adjustment, it moves the whole assembly, high and low together.

Ok. Thanks for the tip. I'll just go at it. Seems silly they don't include such a common adjustment instruction in the (rather large) owner's manual.

It's not there for a reason. There are federal motor vehicle standards that determine the upper area or cutoff of the headlight beam. Providing adjustment instructions in the owners manual would allow owners to easily aim their headlights higher than the law mandates and possibly blind oncoming drivers.

The proper way to adjust headlights is with a headlight aiming/alignment machine to ensure the vehicle meets the specs. If you do decide to 're-aim' your headlights manually, be forewarned that you could be pulled over and ticketed for it. Also, if your state/province mandates safety inspections, they may flag your vehicle.

I did look at it, but when I get to the headlight aiming part, it is blank with an error message saying something about image linkage problem
