Hey guys, I honestly have no clue about the bulbs or how they work, all I really know is I'd like a pair of brighter and lighter colored bulbs. Seeing cars at night on the freeway with the bright white lights sure looks amazing!

Are there cheap bulbs that will give me the necessary lighting and look? Everyone is talking about getting an HID conversion which could cost more than $100, but then I hear about Xenon bulbs that you just plug in and are supposed to be brighter and "bluer".

I honestly have no clue about any of this so help me out if any of that ^ is wrong

And are those brighter and "bluer" bulbs legal in California?? I've heard stories of people getting pulled over because they're too bright, I do a lot of driving at night and I'd rather not have to worry.

Check NICO's sponsor page. I think HIDextra is a sponsor and they have some good HID kits that seem to be getting some good press on other sections of NICO.

I know this thread is old, but I didn't want to start a new one.. Did you ever get any xenon bulbs? I've found several pairs of cheap bulbs online and had the same question about whether to just get these or if I should just go with the HID conversion kit. ANybody who has xenon bulbs OR HID's can respond with their opinions and such. Thanks guys!

Also, if anybody has one of the HID conversion kits, is it just plug and play? Like no need to mess with cutting up the old wiring harnesses? I have seen kits on amazon that say they are plug and play, but I don't want to get them and see a little "some modification required" sticker in the instruction manual...

I have a 2014 saloon I used the SYLVANIA SilverStar zXe. They are have the Xenon gas filled in them. They are the same bulb size as factory. They are plug a play and DOT approved. They burn very bright and have very great cut offs when used in factory head light housing. The bulbs run about 60 USD at local parts stores. Here is the link for the bulbs. https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/products ... r-zxe.aspx

As for HID retrofit is so much work to get it right (getting beam pattern right). You could run different colors yes. If you like blue brighter but narrow beam then HIDs is the route for you. Most kits out there are very close to plug and play. No need to cut wiring like the old ones.

For the laws you can always speak to a state trooper about local laws seeing that they differ from state to state and area.

those silver star and equivalent bulbs, are great, but they sure as heck don't last very long... and they're pricey.
