What is the head gasket thickness suppose to be, metal ones from HKS have a 1.2mm thickness and I don't think the SR needs any help lowering it's cr any more then it is.Another question I'm looking at is what does the HKS lifter replacement do for someone, or the stoppers for that matter.-James

I dont know about the headgasget thickness.. I hope someone answers you just so i can get the info too.

As for the RA stoppers -- When at high - VeryHigh RPM the valves are moving very quickly and being hit very hard. They begin to 'Float' or drift beyond the normal open point. This can cause major damage to pistons and thus the inside of the engine. The stopper limits the distance the valve can travel. Keeping you from poping a hole in the top of your piston if you go 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th.

I just got done installing my Tomei RAS's on my SR20, I have pictures if you want. They sit alongside the walls of the cylinder head and there is a little flat piece that sits about 2 or 3 mm away from the rocker arm. That rocker arm sits on a piece of rubber and when at high RPM's or coming down from high RPM's, that rocker arm can jump up and away from the rubber piece, and if that happens, all sorts of havoc can be created inside your cylinder head. What this does is it holds the arm in place, preventing it from jumping up. For 100 bucks, it's definitely worth the price.

RAS's dont have anything to do to prevent valve floating I dont think. Valve floating is due to the valves not closing fast enough because of weak/soft valve springs. That is why many vendors sell aftermarket valve springs to stiffen it up and clear the valves faster after opened.

I believe ItzGenX is correct, I didn't see Cyberkreig post that.

So the question is this....If I'm buying aftermarket camshafts and springs, would the RAS be need with the combitnation, maybe for insurance? Dunno much about the valvetrain in these cars.-James

Do you need them? No.Would it be a good idea? Yeah.Insurance = Good, unless you have to pay it every month.

I'm using RAS's with my stock valvetrain.

If you like to rev your engine anywhere near it's redline, then yes get it and assure yourself you wont destroy your motor over a simple rev or single highspeed race. The point is, when revving, your rockers are pivoting and swinging pushing the valves down. When they begin to do their job too fast or faster then usual, there's a chance they fall off their seats and cant do what they are supposed to. If they swing off their seats, not only will the valve not open, but the butt of the rocker arm will be touching something that its not supposed to(many times scarring the surrounding area and sometimes the camshaft). So for a 100 dollars you can stop this from happening.
