Use the technique as described in the FSM. Torquing is a 2-staged, ordered process. The FSM gives the order and the specs. Besides that, make sure both surfaces are very clean and I would use a straight-edge to to make sure both surfaces are sound. Some headbolts are hard to turn, but that's because they touch the cams, so turn the cam slightly to put in those bolts.

It is very straight-forward. I reused my old bolts, but I say go for ARP studs since you'll already have the head off.

it wasnt the headgasket.. we have 30 compression on each cylinder. we checked, its the rings. we poured oil in there and were letting it soak.. maybe this will solve the problem. the valves are good, and my timing is perfect.. so well see tomorrow. thanks miller, you guys have gotten me thru sooo much!

If it overheated, the head and block may need resurfaced as they are probabally warped. The CA is infamous for bad rings though and that could also be a valid problem, though I've never seen one down to 30psi...

its probably the rings and the head gasket. 30psi is pretty freaking low...

it RAN... but i dont think i warped anything. we let the oil soak, and gave it another compression test.. i got 157, 161, 159, and 160. i hope all of my problems are solved. were in the middle of putting it back together now.. thanks guys!

I don't get it. Did you blow your gasket again? The gasket isn't one of those felpro, 13.99 gaskets is it? I'd stay away from that. I bought an oem gasket, it was like $50.
