hi.. im thinking of buying a 93 240sx.. as you guys may have seen on the f/s forum..owner says it's headgasket is blown.. but the car runs.how much would it cost to get it replaced.. and could it be done at home?i looked around sites and i saw that it has to be checked for cracks in the head and/or change many things in the engine..

price is only 1200$ and i am interested in this car.. but im not sure if buying a malfuntioning car is the best idea because this will be my first car..or.. do any of youg uys have cheap 240 hb near GA ..? (<~ maybe that shouold be posted in f/s section..)any help would be awesome fellaz

Well, first of all, how did the head gasket blow? Overheated? Lack of maintenace? You will need to check the head for cracks and warppage if overheating was the result of the blown headgasket.

Just have this in mind, when you buy a car with a blown head gasket or any other major engine problem, don't expect it to work once the problem is fixed. You can try to fix it and if it works... great! But don't expect it'll work 100%. If this is your first car and you have a very limitied mechanical skills, then you may want to steer clear of this car, just take your time, it'll pay off and you'll find a great car. But if you know what you are doing, then this car would be a great buy, make sure you have enough money reserved incase this engine does not work out and you have to buy a new engine. Whatever happens, good luck!

how bad is it leaking? minor seepage is no biggie. just snap it up and clean it off. if its pouring fast enough that you dont feel like topping off frequently then yeah it needs fixed. as far as checking for cracks you do that when the heads off(send to machine shop). is it stock? if so it has the ka motor not the sr.
