Anyone have headers. I heard on another forum that although they don't give you much power gain on the top end they give you more usable power throughout the power band. So does any one have experience with theses? If they do give a good amount of power like they say they do i'm thinking about getting them.(after i get tires of course.)

I have also heard they are a real PITA to install so i called a local performance shop and priced out install they said $350. That dosent sound to bad does it, They have done headers on two other z's and built 3 tt 350's that i know about.

Headers give you a decent gain, but they're not a major power adder. Like everything else the amount of power they add depends on what else you have done to the car. Add an intake, exhaust and maybe a supercharger and the headers will allow a lot more performance then if you had stock exhaust manifolds or just headers alone.

As for $350 for install. That doesn't sound too bad to me. When I was looking around I was quoted $500 mostly.

Not bad at all, but then again, they might not know what they're up against. They're probably assuming that it just another header install, not knowing that its a PITA. You should ask them if they've done a header install on a Z before.

$350 is cheap. I've asked around my area in CA and the cheapest i found was $500. Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't think you'd be able to use the exhaust manifold (headers as you called it) from a turbo application. It's gonna have open holes where the turbos used to be....

RichieIf they quoted you that amount, you should get it writing before they do the work. Most of the time the easiest way to do headers on our cars is to drop the motor. When doing exhaust mods, you won't see any gains if you keep it stock after the headers. Start with the mufflers then work your way forward to get gains.

FYI-the VQ35HR engines already come from the factory with aftermarket style equal lenght exhaust headers. So the power gains will not be significant. I would suggest starting with exhausts first, or at least an intake.

I say keeping the stock ones is better.. not much different in power gains.. Go with cold air intake and titanium exhaust if you want a power gain.

I don't know if you have to worry about emissions where you are, but last time I checked the DC headers were the only ones for the 350z that were smog legal in all 50 states.

When doing my N/A build, I opted to do headers, high-flow cats and full true dual exhaust. The headers were the worst to install, it took forever. You couldn't get your hand inside to open the bolts keeping them on the car, even with extenders and torque wrenches. Professional Nissan dealership mechanics took 6 hours to do the install. It would've taken longer but we took the whole gearbox out.

However, if you get the engine out too, it's a breeze, and will take 10 - 15 minutes. It's your call.

Your exhaust being titanium has nothing to do with power gains. CAI has its pros and cons, so does SR.

^^ I have heard really good things about full length long tube headers on the Z's. They are supposed to put out more hp then the shorties do.

**EDIT** Sorry to threadjack, but where'd my sig go?

Sigs are only displayed once per page. BTW, yours is too big. 600x200 pixels with two standard sized lines of text.

If these are TT headers then you can't use them on your N/A as they will have mounts for the turbo's unless you take the time to try and close them up.

We have them on special now for $323, that is IMO the best bang for the buck you can do on a Z or G.

Check the link for more info:

There was a company called Xerd that made a similar longtube, but they are out of business form what I have heard.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the long tubes "not smog legal"?

Well, there was a ton of crap talking about Megan and rightly so. Their original test pipes were really crappy, now they have come out with the new version of the T.P., shorty headers and these and I can tell you first hand are top quality and the welds are very nice.

We build custom exhausts and do roll cages, so we are familiar with good vs bad welds.
