Wow this thread is brought back from the dead, while its here i was wondering if anyone had specific details on installing O2 sensors for a header install. Im in IL and emission testing is required, so with the header install i know my car will fault. Ive been looking online, and i cant find any really good install threads for the sensors or spacers. Im just looking to take the fault out of my dash. Thanks for any comments.

If you go with any other header than the Stillen, you retain the stock rear cat which should probably be enough to pass emissions. Or just keep your stock header around for emissions testing, then swap the aftermarket one back in again. It really isnt' that tough.

Wait, you have a 3.5? Do the stock headers have cats on them like the QR25 header does? If not, then it shouldn't make any difference if you have aftermarket headers installed.

The spacers that people are referring to are old 18mm spark plug anti-fouling spacers for old Fords and stuff like that. If you go to any parts store, they'll know what you're talking about.

Well i was actually going to pick the headers up from Stillen. It seems to be the only reliable brand out right now that i can find. I was thinking OBX, but they discontinued a while ago. But yea Stillen would be my first pick without the down-pipe, sadly only because of emissions. And i do not believe the headers have CATS on them itself, and i know upon installation that it will trip my ECU. But i cannot find any really good sources to remove the O2 trip.

Stillen provides a box that is supposed to trick the ECU into not tripping a CEL, but it doesn't work. I called Stillen and the guy told me that since I didn't buy the header thru them that I couldn't get tech support. Thanks a lot dingles...I won't even mention the shotty collector construction and it is already starting to rust after a year. I could have done better as a beginner welder.

You put the spacers in between the headers and midpipe right? But what about the O2 sensors, those are drilled directly into the pipe?

I read that you're supposed to put it on the rear O2 sensor since the front one is a wideband and controls the AFRs. ?? I guess it is worth a shot though.

Alright, im going to try the space the header and throw a sensor on. Do the process of elimination until i get it. Shouldn't take more then a case......i hope.

This weekend I'm going to try to extend the wideband O2 harness so I can put it in the collector as opposed to one single runner. Could be part of the problem also.

You can always go the quick and dirty route and get a nitrous system. Installed and tuned properly (SAFC-II) for another $1000 and you could have a fairly fast car on your hands.
