To be truthful I only have the drivers side header partially installed. It is the more cramped area and definitely requres more massaging of the titan header but it fits.

I'd have it done tomorrow but I have to attend a beer festival in scottsdale.

Enjoy the pics!

So looking at this picture comparing the older Q45 VK45DE exhaust manifold to the VK56DE manifold of the titan they appear very similar with a few exceptions.

#1 The outlet pipe diameter that feeds into the catalytic(which has been removed obviously) is slightly smaller on the VK45 than to the VK56.

#2 Ports are oval on the VK56 to the round ports on the VK45

Now look at this picture of the 2006 M45 VK45DE exhaust manifold - same round ports as before from the prior generation Q45 engine but look at the runners - the M45 runners are pretty much non existant and empty directly into a "log" style collector. Also look at the outlet pipe diameter...it is puny even as compared to the Q45 manifold let alone to the larger VK56 Titan manifold.

Why do I care about this? Well Nissan Titan owners have been celebrating - on average - a 20 to 25 hp increase when switching to the JBA header. This is on a larger engine but spins less rpm than the M45. If they are experiencing that big of a difference on an already decently designed exhaust manifold than the difference should be that good or greater on the M45 meaning we should share the same if not more hp increase given our RPM flow requirements.

Finishing this up is going to be a pain as I have found out the ports are smaller than the exhaust gasket by about 2mm and that means I will have to add material and reshape the port on the header flange. Serious pita.

I might have a machine shop make a flange that will match the head ports exactly, but that is down the road a bit and only if the gains are as good as I am expecting.

I forgot to add that the bore spacing is exactly the same as an LS1 which I predicted and confirmed this weekend.

Potentially a set of long tubes from a Corvette, GTO, G8, Camaro, etc, etc, ect.. could easily be made to fit as a bolt on option with only needing to chop off the LS1 flange and weld up a new flange that has our bolt pattern.

I know it sounds dumb to use one of them over the titan header, but the pain in getting the titan header to fit is extrodinary especially ith the oval ports.

LS1 headers shar the round ports as we have so we only need to find a set that clears the engine mount and steering shaft and we are Colorado!

Looking good man! Seems like a lot of work to make those headers fit, but you seem to know what you are doing. Hope it all works out for you in the long run! Keep us up to date! P.S. Drink a BEER or two for ME!

Just did some poking around - the LS1 style head uses a different mounting angle at the head.

Where as the VK45 and 56 use a parallel style mounting surface that is parallel to the piston stroke - or exactly perpendicular to the cylinder head mounting surface, the LS1 style uses an angled setup. Hard to explain without pictures but it'll make sense after you see them - I'll post them later if I can find some good examples or just take some of my own since I have both engines sitting in my garage.

A more likely canidate for the Long Tubes would be from a 05' and newer mustang - that is if the port spacing is the same as the LS1 as the VK45 - 56.

We will see - more research to be done.
