Nothing is impossible but I believe there are configuration problems making headers a non a bolt on proceedure. Available performance mods for the VG30DE are few. However, there are a couple of J30 owners here who have done some things. Still waiting for a full performance report from them (ahem... Mayhem? :D ).

maybe it was you vimy or Eswift...I can't remember and personally don't feel like searching right now, but someone SWORE the stillen headers would not fit in the J30. Obviously they would mount right up to the block, but they would have to navigate around the tricky compact engine compartment...??? I dunno. I would say probably yes. I've seen pics of both the J's exhaust manifold and the Z's (n/a) manifold and they appear identical to me. Which would only lead me to assume that the headers would work. Users of the headers have said the gains are more noticeable with nitrous...that statement could be subjective but decide for youself. here's two dynos of two different Z's but with the same n/a motor. The environment conditions vary between the two so don't take the gains as gospel

Here's a baseline dyno:http://www.ttzd.com/rides/dyno....htmlDyno with headers:http://www.ttzd.com/rides/dyno....html

(thank you TTZD)

SGP racing also makes a 3.3L stroker kit for the VG30DE if you got lots of money to invest. They can rebalance your crankshaft, give you new cams, pistons and of course bore it out a bit.

BTW Vimy, I will be running the 1/4 at the BG meet on March 8th if that helps satisfy your curiosity. :D

The J30 is said to have 210 hp and the 300zx 220. Are these engine power numbers? The dyno charts indicate max hp of 175. Is this rear wheel hp? The ambient temperature is close to 80F so some loss would be encountered but that much?

Yes, those are RWHP. The rated amount 210~220 is flywheel. I don't know where the extra 10HP comes from on the n/a Z.

The Z has a better exhaust system and a slightly more aggressive ECU I believe.

175 WHP is 16.6% drivetrain loss, which to me sounds pretty good for an automatic. My Spec V is lossing about the same for a 6-speed manual. My goal is to get my Spec V UP to 175 WHP!

Jpalm is probably right. I know the engine itself is exactly the same, so that's the only things left besides intake

the only way for someone to prove if the headers fit is to actually get them and see.

my vote is a likely "no" for a direct blot on because exhaust flanges are different.

there is always the issue of the header clearing the J30's power steering column which creates a kink in even the stock manifolds.

i would love to see it done, so madmax, why dont you check it out for us, and let us know how it goes.

also of note: the J30 has a more restrictive intake plumbing system than the NA 300zx, which helps to account for the lost HP.
