I've been out of the Maxima loop for at least three years. Last time I checked, they did not make headers for our cars. Now I see Cattman headers listed on some 4th gen modlists....are they really headers or are they just referring to the y-pipe as headers? If they are really headers, how much real power do they help out with?

Yes they are true headers. The power gain for the 4th gens isn't as great as what the 5th gen gains (~20hp).

i have the actual headers, AND y-pipe on mine. however, i didnt go with the cattman's because they are too overpriced in my opinion. i went with a company that "debuted" 4th gen headers along time ago with an article on maxima.org. the company is called "stone mountain," and they are out of georgia. you can usually do an ebay search for headers and find a few sets for reasonable $$, usually the OBX brand. here is a link to the ones i have http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW. i have had these installed for about 2 1/2 months now with no complaints. they give the car a much lower, louder growl sound...kinda similar to the old 5.0 mustangs. you can also check out my cardomain page, it has some pics of the car, or if your interested i could post some better ones of the headers for you. hope this helps!!

Headers on a 4th gen are a waste of very useful moola. They only add sound and maybe a couple horses for 300 dollars. Go with a Y and Exaust and you will see about 20 hp with that.

maybe, but i am trying to squeeze as much N/A hp out of my engine as possible. later on, i am considering a small 50-shot of NOS. but until then i want to keep it as n/a as possible.

I already have a Y and a catback. When I had my first one, I put down 200 at the wheels with a K/N intake, y, straight pipe and a catback. It was more than what people said it would do back in the day, but I got the dynosheet to back it up. Now, if I can get 20 at the wheels on top of that for $300, I don't think it's bad at all. It's just interesting to me cause I didn't have that option back then.
