I have some of this "muffler wrap 'n patch" stuff sitting around, and i believe that ive seen guys use it on their header to block some heat from invading the engine area.

Is it safe to use? It looks like a bandage with a tube of white crap you soak the bandage in.

I just dont wanna burn up my engine!!!

no, dont use it. Itll cause ur header to crack over time. Just leave it be.

I dont care if it cracks, i just want something to block out all the damn heat around the engine. I mean its alot, man like sweating gross soaked underwear hot. I hope i dont have a gasket issue. eff it

by the way, it says "muffler wrap, will stand up to high temps from catylitic converters". Is there a difference? I dont think there should be...

uh, one thing i used is aluminum tape...for ventilation...i wrapped my downpipe and test pipe w/ it and it stayed and kept a noticeable amount of temperature in the piping...*read: more frequent backfires*

probably not. you dont often see a Cat glow, but headers get that hot. what you need is actual header wrap. i would recommend against it though. when you first install it, it STINKS. then if it ever gets wet, it stinks even more. the heat cant be that bad.

it actually made the car overheat over a period of time. When i got moving again, it got better, but it started up again when i was idling at a traffic light for more than 2 minutes. I hope the CAI will help with this...

I also want to clean the paint off the header and start over. I hope that regular paint thinner will work. I hate working with acid.

why is it that theres no heat shields offered for aftermarket headers. seems logical. can one be fabricated?

If you made your car overheat, it looks to me you've got other problems than just heat from the header. Looks to me like you need to check your coolant level, burp it, or possibly change your coolant.
