the emissions pipe or whatever it is that runs out of the header back behind the block -- could that be a hose instead of a pipe? when the shop put my header on, they had to cut this thing off and reweld it back on. not sure if I can get the header off now to double gasket with the thing welded on. wouldn't a hose be better?

thanks,

you'd have to convert the connection to a flange and use braided metal hose somehow... that might need some fab, but maybe theres a kit out there..somewhere...

That is your your EGR tube (or Exhaust Gas Recirculation tube). It carries spent exhaust gasses to the EGR valve to let the ECU know its burning and then recycles it back into the mix. If you are trying to convert this to a hose, it better be able to withstand GOD AWFUL high temperatures. Disconnect the header at the cat then at the cylinder head and EGR tube to move it away from the head. I think double gasketing it tho will increase the chance of blowing one of your gaskets out.

If you want, try installing the thing yourself. Apparently your shop couldnt do it right. Unbolt everything from it then start over, but start at the cylinder head to MAKE SURE it seats properly. Where it connects to the exhaust may be off a few, but you can loosen the exhaust, bolt the 2 together, and retighten the exhaust. As for the EGR tube, mine was a b**** to get back on, but it will go.

I would at this point remove the egr and block it off.

is that really a good idea? will I still be able to pass emissions? will that change the fuel mixture or other things negatively?

if I do it, should I just stick a breather on it or cap it off, and how do I cap it off?

thanks,

Do not use a breather. Both ends need to be sealed tight. I run without the EGR and was able to pass emissions here in GA, but that was with a good 30 minute warmup before testing. Some states are more strict on their tests, and some will fail you just for not having it, whether it passes or not. Either make sure it's reversible if you remove it, or make a "friend" in the testing center.

I not up to date on the emissions thing. Here in the deep south we don't have no muffler sniffer's
