You could remove the whole EGR system. Opinions about the benefits/ hazards of doing this varies widely. I think I am going to do it as soon as I can get a block off plate made.

I don't have this header but is it possible that the header's hole is not as deep as the stock one? Which means you just have to stop tightening when it bottoms out.

I cant get my EGR to UNSCREW....mine is like frozen in there. Do you remember the size of that threaded fitting?? I have been using vise grips and crescent wrenches....I wanna get a line wrench of the appropriate size....what did you use to get it off to do your header??

could you take a picture and post it so we can see exactly what you're dealing with?

Ill try to get a pic. Its the EGR fitting that goes into the stock exhaust manifold. Its a pipe with a threaded nut on it that goes into the monifold. When you put in the new header (hotshot) it attaches to the small tube that extends off of it at the top. I cannot get the dang thing off!!! I have now rounded the bolt by trying. I will have to cut it off and rig something.

what i'm curious to see is the clearance issues. I helped install a Pacesetter header on my friend's MX-6 and we ran into a similar problem with the EGR tube. We ended up having to cut it off with my hacksaw and them rigging a plug for the header.

Nobody had a fitting large enough to plug up the bolt hole, so we took the stock plug, had it filled with weld, then welded the collar in place.

To fix the EGR tube itself, we got some cold weld and crimped the tube leaving a few inches to fill with the cold weld, and then crimped the end.

I want to know what the clearance for the tube is in case something needs to be cut.

[Ill get a pic posted tomorrow for you. Why does everyone crimp their EGR...is it that unimportant?? Isnt there just a way to rig it to work the way its supposed to??

we plugged it cause we couldn't get the EGR tube to seal up on the header. If you want to know, the EGR tube is mainly there for emissions. It has no performance benefits, so removing it really doesn't screw you up too much, unless you get smog tested a lot. I have a feeling most people crimp it off because it's easier than trying to reinstall it properly.

I live in NY, so smog is almost as strict as Cali. I really need to rig something up.
