I just installed my Hotshot header and i gotta say, i love it. There was no clearance problems with the bell housing or steering. The 02 sensor hole size has been fixed on their most recent generation of headers. The performance is pheonominal. After 4000 RPM it pulls HARD. I'm so excited for more mods. I have no money though...:( Oh well, i love the header and suggest it as a future mod for all! :)

I have a question for you all, out of curiosity. What would a 95 DE sound like with header, no cat, 2.5" crush bend piping and a magnaflow muffler? I'm interested to know if anyone's done anything like it...

I'll get a pic up soon...

240dreamer - can you tell me if it eliminated both of the catylitic converter or just one? i autocross and i need to have one of them present just in case they look.

and how much did you pay for it? and are you running with the stock exhaust now?

thanksmike

eliminates the cat in the downpipe, you need to replace the 2nd cat or resonator with a "three way" cat to stay legal. random tech and catco both make bolton cats to fit the bill. they are 12.5 inches long. if you are odb2 (which you are not) you must relo the rear o2 sensor behind the new cat and plug the hole for the rear o2 in the header in order to keep the check engine light from coming on with a code 72 (primary catalyst failure).

my install went flawlessly on mine. i am very happy with it. i had an o2 bung welded into the random tech cat, behind the brick, and plugged the o2 hole in the header.

i have heard that relo'ing the primary o2 to the secondary o2 hole in the header will make the motor run better because you get a more accurate reading off of all 4 cylinders. you could also use the second hole for a wideband o2 for tuning.

the question at hand is about the exhaust tho. here is something for ya.

what do a mosquito, a hummingbird, a weedeater, a vtec motor, and a ka24xx have in common?

they all sound the same through a magnaflow or flowmaster muffler

thanks for the info camel. as long as i have something to show that i have a cat, so i can still autocross in my class (stx). i know it won't pass smog, so i'll just have to put the stocker back on.

now just have to save enough money to buy an exhaust system (apex dual n-1)

question: does the apex dual bolt directly to the secondary cat or to the header? its a direct bolt on affair, right?

15 minutes, bolts on to the back side of secondary cat. dude, get a catco bolton for less than 100 bucks, hi flow cats no longer restrict air flow as much as you think. and btw, you wont pass smog unless you replace that second cat with a three way cat such as the random or catco.

i am running an apexi n1 single, w header, and random tech cat. it rocks. just keep the silencer in for n\a and pull it out when you turbo. i think it looks better than the dual and it clears all the swaybars with no problem. the dual has problems clearing aftermarket bars.

i'm not too worried about having a cat. in, i just wanted something to show that i had cat. but i guess if i could pass smog w/ hotshot, catco or random, and apex, then maybe its worth getting. i have access to a mechanic's garage and i love working on my car, so i don't mind the work to put the stockers back on for a smog check. that $100 could be spent on something else :asmile

damn camel....i hope your wrong about the fitment of the dual's...i was just talking about the apex exhaust w/ my bro, he likes the single tip and i like the dual. but i haven't read about clearance problems w/ the dual. do you know if it will have clearance problems w/ the ST swaybars?it won't be until summer when i get the exhaust, but thanks on the info....

I like the single. It'd be loud, let it be known. It'd be loud..

one of the local guys here has the dual with the st sways, he said they rub but it can be made to work (not sure waht that entails)

I have heard that it just doesn't work with the whitelines.

i am pretty sure it works with the stock sway tho.

and yeah, mine's pretty loud when i get on it even with the silencer in. n a k a loud and proud as they say......

i can keepit quiet when i need to tho...

I actually haven't had the CEL come on yet. It seems that for one reason or another, eliminating the cat didn't throw an engine code. I can't say that i'd like it to....:) Lucky me

As for the exhaust thing....i pretty much figured that it'd sound like that, but wasn't sure.

Dont be an ***, put on a damn cat.

Its the very least you can do. It doesent cost much, and makes a HUGE difference. Dont be so damn selfish.

^tree hugger....hehe

You really should run with a cat, the reason you dont have a cel is because you are obd1, obd2 check to make sure the cat works. obd1 does not.

My S13 has the S14 HS header customized to a 2.5 outlet(last 12 inches) into 2.5 high flow cat into 2.5 piping into a magnaflow muffler. It is the loudest damn thing I have heard(kinda hollow sounding), but the top end is pretty respectable. I noticed that the low to mid seems to be lacking although I never dynoed it, it doesnt seem like a lot of loss.
