ive searched and coudlnt get a definate answer about the EGR system on a 89 s13 SOHC engine. i have my AIV removed and capped at the ex. mani.

my stock ex. mani is cracked so i got me a HOtshot header.

i cant remove the ****ing EGR tube because is frozen and i ended stripping the nut trying to loosen it. the only option i have is to cut it, the remove it from the EGR and install a new tube to connect to the Hotshot Header.

my question.

does the EGR on the SOHC be removed? or just plugged.since it sucks air in , can a plug boot be installed at the tube end.( capped). or will it not work.

or can a small filter be installed at the tube ex. end, to suck in fresh filtered air. and will this help performance by introducing more fuel when more cool air comes in?

anyhow will the car throw codes. again ive searched and i see mixed answers. some say the ECM will make the car run Lean, others say it will run rich, others say it does nothing to the car.some say the A/F mixtures are all screwed up if you remove it? which is it. i thought the o2 sensor was incharge of the A/F mixture sensing, so removing the EGR should not be a problem.

anyhow i would like a definate answer from someone who has done it on a SOHC engine. that would help me alot.

I've blocked mine and will be removing it completely soon, it runs just fine. I have an air fuel ratio gauge and it reads like it used to. Only California emission equiped 240's will trigger a code, others will not matter.

Do not allow any fresh air to enter the EGR and into the intake. That would give the engine fresh air that is not metered by the MAFS and will confuse the ECU.

No problem and by the way, I've heard from others who have done this and they say the engine will idle weird at start up and clear up as soon as you start driving, I can't confirm this since my R4 cam makes my idle crappy anyway so I can't tell if it's the cam or the EGR doing that.
