Hey all, once again im back with a noob question. so im looking into gettin new headers for the 240 and while i was looking, some friends brought it to my attention that the headers needed to be coated with a heat resistant coating so that they will not overheat and start to melt? so basically is it needed?

uhh, ive never heard of that, i have a stainless steel header and know of a couple buddys that have them to and they havent melted. are they talking about coating the inside to? but i think no matter what you put on it its probally gonna get just as hot. i even have heatwrap to keep all the heat in . kinda makes me nerous, hope i dont mess anything up, lol.

i dont think you need it.stainless steel is very heat resistant and it should be ok by itself

a header will not melt because they are made to withstand high temps .they might warp or crack but they will not melt. painting them will not make them run any cooler and neither will wrapping them it just keeps the heat away from the surrounding things which will make them run more efficiently.

Maybe hes talking about a ceramic coating, they use it on hotshot headers. Without a coating on stainless it will not melt the header lol, but with ceramic it will keep it cooler.

Ceramic coating actually keeps the heat in the header acting as an insulator... this promotes exhaust flow. It's not that it is cooler it just keeps that heat from baking other things inside your engine bay like the OEM heat shield.
