Trying to get a parts list together and I'm not finding too many parts for the head. All I can seem to find is valve springs, RAS, and cams. Does anyone make oversized valves or retainers or are there any other parts that I might be not thinking of?

edit: I just looked on Jun's website and they make alot of the parts I was looking for. Are they my only option for these parts? Also, I'm assuming their lash killer kit is the same thing as the RAS??

Cam pulleys, valve retainers, headgaskets, stronger headbolts, and lash kits are different than rocker arm stoppers. Thats about all I got.

Also spark plugs and a new trendy oil cap :P

i' d say go with hks cam gears and cams, and either hks tomei or greddy valve springs

http://www.phase2motortrend.com will give you a lot of good ideas : )

Can you give me any reasons why the HKS cams or valve springs are any better than Toda? Not questioning your suggestion but just trying to gain a little more knowledge before I decide to start this project.

just from the 'experience' factor of more people out there using HKS cams/gears....not too many people are using the toda cams/gears....neither one is bad, but i feel personally that HKS has used more research in developing products for the sr20det. toda does make a quality product, there just arent as many 'testimonials' reguarding results..if you know what im saying...its proven that hks are of some of the highest quality, and produce great results....like i said, i couldnt prove either was better than the other, i just know hks makes quality products, and their SR cams/gears are very good : )

either way, im sure you'll be happy

:) That's kind of what I was thinking. No doubt that the HKS cams are a piece of work. The main reason I have Toda products listed is because if I start the project, which I am almost positive I will, I will be going with the Toda stroker kit to help spool up the turbo I want. I saw in a magazine that I had that the Signal Auto S15 has alot of Toda parts, including cams, cam gears and valve springs I believe. Looks like I've got some research to do :(

well one thing, is building the head first isnt always the best...the Sr head is more than worthy of pulling good #'s, there are cars in the 8's and 9's with stock heads....the bottom end would be more sensible to build up First, then the head second...if your planning on a stroked motor, thats 2 fold IMO....wait to do the stroker, then you'll want to custom build the head to maxamize performance...otherwise, you'll most likely be doing it again if that makes any sense....your going to want a different head setup if you have a 2.0vs 2.2.

Most definately...but I figure if I'm going to do the stroker kit, I might as well build the head since it has to come off anyways. I was planning on putting in the stroker kit and building the head before the SR even went into the car. Honestly, the only thing that is really holding me back from doing the project is fuel management. I would really like to wait for AEM to come out with a ecu for the SR or even wait for their race ecu and have it hard wired up. I know there are options but seeing the results some of my supra buddies have had with it, it really seems like a great product and their customer service seems to be excellent.

id suggest you just get electromotive TecII or III over AEM....some 740cc or 850cc inj, and dual fuel pumps

Cool....I'll do some research on those two ecms...mabye the project will get started sooner than I thought. Thanks for the info. BTW....850cc injectors are a must for what I have in mind ;)

not if you run 4 740cc's with electromototive tecIII with 4 additional 740cc's : )

or just run full alcohol injectors :P

Electromotive systems are very nice. They can handle twin-turbo Diablos, so it'll probably be okay with the SR20. If you can find a tuner who has already used one on a 240, you can get their setup for the sensor wiring and basic maps.

lucky, you mind filling us in on what your goals are? like what 1/4 mile times are you looking for? what kinda horsepower numbers?

oh and what do you have planed for a transmission to handle that kind of power?

Mr. Mattback! What about that nisdat you mentioned some time ago? I know I am waiting to see how that looks before I make an ECU decision.

I hope to run very low 10s or high 9s with full interior. I like having the option to drive my car on the street with a/c, carpet, a radio and more than 1 speaker. Power...somewhere between 650 and 750. I'm gonna stay on the stock transmission and see how long it takes to blow up on low boost. Once that happens, I'll probably buy another stock transmission while I'm saving up for a JUN, HKS, or Grex sequential transmission.

hey guys how great is nissdata supposed to be. I want about 300-325hp mininum at the crank when my sr gets out of the shop. I'm getting it swapped by Scott and Matt of Secret Services. But havent heard much about Nissdata, is this ecu better than say jwt?

I dont think he is exactly bashing you.. but you are compairing apples and oranges. The JWT ECU is a fine computer for a basic user who doesnt have the time or skill to really fine tune a motor. (the JWT is NOT an adjustable unit, it is just a reprogram). The other comps. we are talking about (MOTEC, Electromotiv, AEM, etc.) are all full custom and can be adjusted on the fly via laptop or handheld. They require more money, and alot more knowledge to be used correctly.

Even if you were comparing apples to apples, the JWT ecu would still be crap. There is no way I would ever install an ecu with a generic map tuned to what they think should be right for the mods I have done to my car. I would take a HKS VPC/S-AFR combo over a JWT ecu any day. Tuning with these is very simple and if they can't figure it out shops are always willing to charge you more to tune your car for you.

I hadnt heard that they were THAT bad.. I will certainly take your word. I know that for me personaly, I dont think i know enough to program somethign like a motec, but then i wouldnt want to not have the option.. If you follow that logic.

I'm not saying that the JWT ecu is THAT bad...they work but come on...there are much better options out there that will let you tune your car how you want it and cost less than the JWT ecu. I'm actually wondering why the HKS VPC/S-AFR combo isn't used more in the Nissan crowd. It's been proven over and over in on other cars. I do not have any experience tuning with Motec, Electromotive, Haltech, etc but that's because I've never had any experience with it. I want to learn and will have to once I get my project going.

in a nissan ecu, there are lots of maps. the ecu looks at maf and water temp to figure which map to use. a safc will change the signal and the ecu will choose a different map. but that map isn't the best. the timing is still suited for something different. the jwt adds new maps. its not too terrible. but if you could replace the 2 eproms that jwt uses and replace them with writable eproms, you could have your own little nissdata. btw, why are there so many revlimits in a jwt ecu? there is like 4 or 5 of them i've been told.shaun
