hey guys, just wondering what kind of head work is good for turbo, I know port and polish, and 5 angle valve jobs, but ive seen 5 axis cnc machineing offered and such, just wondering what kind of work is good for flow. what kind of shops are good in the NC area, and such. the reason I ask is that I have a spare head and 2 s13 exhaust cams ready to go. just looking to get it worked before I put it on

i know that RLZ engineering in Concord does some really good headwork. with where you are at (nascar town), there are plenty of places that are capable of doing the work but you just have to convince them to work on import head. haha

Port and polish isn't as important on an FI KA vs. an NA KA because all the air is pressurized and is literally being forced into the head anyway....for the amount of money for a really nice port and polish I doubt the gains would be significant...For my rebuild I got oversized (1mm) intake and exhaust valves (ferrea) and am most likely doing a 3-angle valve job (anyone want to explain the technicalities and benefits of 3 angle vs. 5 angle when it comes to valve jobs????), just because I was planning on having the head rebuilt anyway so i figued I may as well get some more durable valves...and the 1mm valves will flow a little better too, although I'm not expecting any noticeable gains, although they'll be a nice complement to my PDM cams. I'm using OEM valve springs though, I never intend to exceed 7000 rpm...

I think it's a lot more important to have a nice exhaust manifold and properly matched turbo as well as fuel/timing management....there's probably a good reason ast to why only the guys looking for insane numbers bother doing port and polishes for KA-Ts...the money can be spent better elsewhere. Just my $.02

having headwork done never fit my budget but some projects can benefit from it.

Headwork will always help if done correctly, even on a FI KA, it can force more air in with less effort.

if done right it can do some serious gains, now if its done wrong it will hurt more than help. Thats why I asked on here is to find a reputable shop, I can go out and hog the ports out and polish them but I would rather have some one who is knolagable on the KA head do it

Just call up Ivan at PhatKA-T and get the name of the shop that did the headwork on his project S-14. I'm sure that shop is more than capable of doing a pristine job on your head.

If you're not looking for anything over 570rwhp, you should be fine with stock head, otherwise this may be a necessity for you.

easy answer: dont waste your money on headwork before building the block. its much easier/cheaper to add a couple of psi for free.

long answer. if you really want to educate yourself (i say this because its 20 pages long; personally i dont care, nor do i have the money for it so after like the 7th i quit =P):http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=479529&page=1
