04 G35x. The cd player is in constant use by my wife (her car). God knows how many hours of use it has on it. (158k miles). Start the car and the cd starts playing as is appropriate. Turn the unit off and try to turn it on again-no go. Cd read out shows that the cd is rotating but no sound. Tried turning on and off, ejecting and re-inserting cd, switching from radio to cd (radio continues to play), turn the car off and restart, sometimes one of these actions is successful in getting the cd to play. With all of the hours on the unit I am thinking that it should be replaced. Do I just replace the cd unit or the entire head unit (cd and radio)? Is it wise to look for a used one on the club site? Would I only look for an 04 or would other years be applicable? If so then what years?

Thanks

Probably an issue with the board as it's common with the early G35's. Contact http://www.shortcircuitrepair.com/ concerning a solution

Problem solved. Infiniti dealer wanted $4,000 plus labor. That was ridiculous. Junky wanted $400 (plus labor from mechanic to install). Found a repair facility in WI? that specialized in these. They wanted a flat rate of about $115 plus shipping. Sent them the radio and cd. They replaced the clarion cd, checked the operation and verified that everything else worked. Re-installed in car. All works great. Infiniti Company stinks. This is the second time they have tried to rake me over the coals with ludicrous pricing of replacement parts. There was a small oil leak. My mechanic stated it was the o rings had dried out. Stated that on every other car that he had seen you could buy the o rings (cheap) item and change them. Infiniti would only sell the whole plastic assembly that included the o rings. Needed 6 of them as it is a six cylinder motor. I would never buy an infiniti again.

Glad it's fixed. We usually use http://www.shortcircuitrepair.com/

As expected, dealerships are usually a premium. Can't really blame Infiniti for something all dealerships do.
