head unit and sub problem

I have a 12in sub by visonik<Sp>i bought from walmart(yeah back off lol) well the ground terminal broke off today so i rigged up a way to make a ground and it still works right well, when i go to turn on my sub from my alpine head unit on is off and off is on. Its all backward, and it upsets me cuz i can change the bass for the sub while it reads off on the head unit. even though the sub is working? what happend what do i do?
