Hey, just had my head resurfacesed as Im going to a multi layer steel gasket, I know that they need a real smooth surface to bond properly. Ive got the head back and you can see the machine marks on the head, sort of a semi circle marks. You can feel it when you cratch you finger nail accross the grain.

Is this allright, other people that have had you head machined have yours been like this or shopuld I get it re-done?

Your machine shop used a planer that's has a coarse finish and that's not acceptable. You probably should have asked this question before you put it back together. If you can feel the coarseness with your finger nails, you are in for a bad treat when you try and start your motor. take the head to a better machine shop and don't forget to ask to see some of the work they've done on other heads.

Like Boost Boy said... you need to have the head done with a CBN cutter. The surface needs to be ultra smooth... same with the block. These MLS gaskets just plain suck unless both the head AND block are resurfaced.

Should I be worried about the amount of thickness I am loosing from my head by having it machined again? as will it be enouth to raise the compression?

Probabaly not a concern, but from the job that you got the first time, they might have to take off more than normal to fix it.

Took the head into ACL gaskets (the company who makes the MLS gasket Im using) He had a look at it and seemed to think it was a pretty good finish and was happy with it.

Maybe Im just a bit more pedantic about things on my car than most?
