So just how strong is the KA-DE head. Is there a certain limit on what level it needs to be upgraded at?

Here are my plansWD Stage 1(when it gets done)8.5:1 comp Ross PistonsPauter RodsFel Pro head gasketARP head boltscams(haven't found any specs, suggestions? Good idle is a must)

Would I need to upgrade the valves, springs, etc....

Thanks

From what i've seen on most high powered KA's, porting and polishing does little to nothing, but good gains can be had from upgrading the cams to 248/248 duration.

hahaha, you haven't seen much then!! Port and Polish for a KA is like magic. A good Valve angle job never hurts for a KA either.;)

I saw an article for porting a KA head in the back of a magazine i had but i cant find it. Does anyone know which one it was or who has a write up & pics on effectively porting the KA head ? Also ive heard weird things about upgrading the cams on high boost engines, whats a good upgrade from stock for a highly boosted engine ?

Modified Mag did that article, the one I just picked up is talking about bottom end rebuilding and machining. Good series, good mag too

Quote »hahaha, you haven't seen much then!! [/quote]Check out Chris May's site and dynos. He had Sunbelt port his head and it looked like an outstanding job. Unfortunately he actually lost power through most of the rpm range as compared to a stock head. Lost about 3 peak hp too. So i'll say again, the stock head is fine even beyond 400hp to the wheels.

Hmm, OK maybe i just do some mild flow workmyself. Yes ive seen the "mike lee" 504rwhp on stock cams. But i need to buy new cams for my rebuild and im not wanting to buy some other ones a few months down the road. So im looking for a descent cam upgrade for a high boost motor. ANy suggestions ? Ive read that actually "over caming" hurts perfromance in turbo engines for some reason ? not sure tho

Shadbolt cams in Canada will custom grind an SOHC cam made for turbocharged applications. Give them a call (do a google search to find the number, it's on their site but i don't have it handy). Talk to Barry. Nice people to deal with. :)

It's not JUST 91's that have those cams, 92's and apparently some 93's do as well. As for holding boost...I can name several people making between 320-350whp on stock bottom ends. The engine is sturdy enough as long as you have perfect tuning and no detonation. The two I'm thinking of are both running JWT ecu's too...probably not a coincidence. Conservative tuning = stock engine living.
