Hey guys, this is my first post on this list, & I'm glad I'm here. I was a member of the Ford Escort Gt board, & my pride & joy was a 92' Escort GT Turbo. I lost her in an accident back in November 03'.

Though I have always admired the 240's, the oppurtunity came up to buy one, so I did. It's a 92' se coupe & am excited by it's potential. It seems though I've inherited the infamous chain rattle, so I will try & tackle it myself.

Reading the FSM, It says to remove the front suspension crossmember, & the head. Is this the only way? Thanks, Kevinb

you do not need to remove the head. And the goal on the bottom is to get the oil pan out. if you can do that without removing the cross member then you have achived the same thing. you can lift the engine of its mounts by using a cherry picker so you can slide the pan out.

Buy the $120.00 munual, it will take you through many steps in detail, it's worth it's weight in gold!

If you have a manual transmisssion put into 5th when removing and installing the crankshaft and cam bolts.

Use a putty knife or razor blade to make sure the head gasket does not bind up when installing the timing cover.

also before you do it search the 240 section for threads of other guys doing it.. there is plenty of info on the job and you can read through errors others have made and attempt to avoid them when you tackle it.
