Here's my status. I traded my s13 stock for a s13.5 with broken sr20det. The person i bought it from showed me two broken rocker arms on the exhaust side only and that the timing chain was loose. I removed the i/m and e/m yesterday and looked at the valves i didn't see any bent or missing. I want to remove the head for further inspection but am worried since the timing tensioner is broken that i can not re align the cams and pistons. I want to get her at btdc so i can ensure she's lined up but she wont budge forward in a clockwise turn.

My question is will it be ok to just remove it where i'm at or do i really have to realign everything before i pull it apart? I figure if i remove the cams all valves will just lift in a closed position and i should be able to remove the head regaurdless of where the cam position is. then afterward (machine shop rebuild) i can simply align the cams and bottom end assembly before reinstallation.

possible?

Yes, there is no need to have your engine at TDC cylinder 1 for a head removal. As soon as you pull the cams out all the valves will be pushed up by the springs.

When reasembling you can manually set the pistons at TDC using the crank pully. Then when you place the head on you just make sure your cams are possitioned correcly (10 and 12oclock) and your engine will be perfectly mechanically timed

I had just finished pulling the head after you posted the confirmation up. I greatly appreciate your reply!
