i have a 89 240sx and my headlights go up but not down. any suggestions?

Check the headlamp retract relays under the hood on driver side. There are also in depth write ups and guides on here for other things to look into with this problem.

i tried that nothing and i dont understand how when i take all the relays and fuses for the head lights out they still go up

My issue was not electrical but mechanical. I took a long screwdriver and tapped around the linkage that physically moves the lights all while someone kept raising and lowering them. I found that the headlights were over extending and linkage was getting stuck. With a phillips screwdriver I adjusted the "bump stops" on the headlights until they functioned properly. That was a couple years ago.

you do know there are about 5 relays for the headlights look per the FSM it will tell you alot of the times its the switch that has gone bad they are notorious for it with high milage cars
