I have a 1995 infiniti j30. At first it was just the passenger side headlight that would start to blink after about 15 min. . Now both lights will blink on and off. sometimes I can get it to stop by turning the switch on and off or turning on the brights. This sometimes will correct to problem but most of the time it will cause the other to go out. I have looked at the headlight relay and there seems to nothing wrong with it or nothing that looks wrong. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this might be?

When this happened to our '92 Q45 (Canadian car) it was the Daytime Running Light module that had failed. BUT, I don't think your car has Daytime Running Lights, does it? I know our '95 Q45 is American and did not have them.

Unless the '95 J30 did and the '95 Q45 didn't - or it's a Canadian J30.

Maybe there's a headlight module in addition to a relay. I think when relays give out they don't start/stop working intermittently.

Do you have an FSM to look at the wiring diagram?

Here's a link to a 1996 J30 FSM. The 1995 manual doesn't seem to have been scanned correctly. The schematic shows a headlamp control unit that I would suspect as it is a single common factor for both headlights.

Thanks Gerard. I learned something. I guess sometimes relays can do the psycho thing instead of just not turning the lights on anymore.

It is not the relay itself it is the solder joint from the pin connectors to the circuitboard, I was able to pull one at a junkyard, I did all of the solder work on that and just swapped them out, no more flashing lights and my lights are brighter Inside the case are 4 enclosed relays I also opened them up and cleaned the points with contact cleaner. The unit I took out did not have covers on the individual internal relays same part number.
