Hey All-

I have a 93 j30t and the right headlight turns on and off intermittently. When it is out the high AND low beam doesn't work, but the left light does... I believe it is the relay switch. I have a couple of questions:

1. I read on some posts that each headlight has it's own relay switch- is this true?

2. If the relay switch is bad would just one headlight be out or both right AND left side?

Thanks for for your time and help!

Brian

to my knowledge there is only one relay and its located on the driver side up in the far right of the engine bay, And yes a bad relay will make some parts of the headlight work without everything being out. I had to replace mine because only my passenger would work properly at first and then my high only worked half of the time, so i changed the relay and all is well.

1. Yes it's true, each side has separate control and switching. Each side has 2 relays per side. + separate DRL module (one for both sides) when the car is made for Canada. All 4 relays (2 per side) are enclosed into one head light unit (which is mistakenly referred here as a relay switch) which is located on the driver's side in the space between the strut tower and the firewall.

2. If one side goes out it does not affect the other one. They even have separate fuses.

Yeap this will be the fastest and easiest solution.

You will have to struggle with taking it out and putting back as the location is pretty tight but the prob should go away
