Well I recently went in to my mechanic for a engine support and oil leak job. Both engine mounts were totally broken and i had an oil leak on the timing cover. Well as soon as the mechanic fixed that i was like " Hey the car is still shaking a little". Thats why i had taken the car in the first place. I thought maybe it was a vacuum line. Well I took the car for a spin and man did it feel different. I could not believe how i was driving the car with those supports like that. So long story short They did some tests and found that and exhaust valve is either bend cracked or stuck. So Im getting a valve job done and gonna put all the new seals for the head in. The mechanic is gonna take the head to get rectified. So im thinking to myself " If the head is at the machine shop what other good things can be done to make my ride a bit more interesting performance wise?" So my question is if anyone has prior knowledge or experiance, What are the number of things i could do with my head at the machine shop? It would be nice if you guys could tell me some things and what exactly they do so i have an idea. It would be nice to get some hps and torque out of this valve job.

Hope you guys can help me out.

I had a motorcycle head worked on a while ago. I was not really looking for performance, so I just had basic stuff done. Valve lapping, stem seal replacement, bead blasting the ports and paint off the outter surface.

You could have larger valves installed, there would be a lot of tuning and support parts to install though. More gas+air=more boom. You could have the intake/exhaust ports enlarged/polished. Same as above. You could just polish existing port sizes. This smooths air and exhaust flow into and out of the head creating less turbulance and a slight increase in power.

The short of it is any modification you are going to do to the head will require a major money and time comitment. I would suggest just cleaning the head and bead blasting it or even painting it if you want to get wild.

This is obviously your daily driver, and you will appreciate a reliable, well running engine far more than a setup that runs +7hp but is never tuned correctly and costs an arm and a leg.

just my $0.02

Very true what you say radian. Do you think just polishing the intake and exhaust ports is a good idea? there will be no tuning for that right?

its been a while since i've had anything like that done to any car. but you could just get away with just polishing. makes the car run a bit smoother. the revs are a little quicker too.

I would think not, but I'm not really sure. I would talk to the guys at the machine shop, they would know better than me.

I'd port before I polished man....The effect of polishing will and does wear off alot sooner than porting does.

what sort of support parts did you all refer to that you said you need when you have head work? ...to have it tuned properly?

300 to 500 bucks? for a whole port and polish? that includes port matching and all? that would not be to bad... I would do it just for the hell of it if its that much. But is there tuning involved?

From what I know people that P&P their head usually get cams and adjustable cam gears, then dyno it till the max power is reached.I dono, you might be able to see a power gain with everything stock though.
