i know they sell head gaskets in varies thickness, thus changing the compression. can someone explain to me the advantages of having a thicker gasket installed on a sr20? thanks.

More compression will give you more hp, and make it safer to run high hp levels and higher boost.

i think you got it a lil mixed up, higher compression will give you more hp, however it will require more precise tuning than lower compression on a f/i application. lower compression is acctually safer due to the fact your tuning doesnt have to be as precise.

thicker hg = lower compression ratio. Lower compression ratio, you can run a bit more boost than you'd normally be able to do, the flip side, you lose a bit of the bottom end for that top end potential. Stick with ~1.1-1.2mm thickness unless you plan on running crazy boost later.
