Thats about it. I believe the head gasket is shot, Could anyone give me a good writeup on how to make it happen. I am not going to tell what I know so I can, In hopes, get a good full write-up. Please undergo this task anyone who has done it for the SOHC.

I pretty much know, what will catch me off guard

Pretty straight forward. Can't be as tough as going into it like I did and have no clue what to expect. Did that this past weekend on a Toyota 4-Runner turbo... imagine that. Anyway, I'd say get a Chiltons manual. Your best friend and the best write-up you'll find anywhere.

I have had to replace both mine and my wifes old DOHC one's, and it was a serious pain. If you do buy a Haynes/Chilton manual please be VERY cautious of their torques specs ! Found out the hard way that their torque specs and pattern for the head on the DOHC is WAY out in left field. Best of luck on the project and hope someone with the SOHC gets you a write up.

Ka24e is not that bad. You might as well get a new timing set while your at it because ka24es like to eat guides. you have to unbolt the intake mani and exhaust mani. Pull cylinder head bolts. Ill try to get youtorque specs and torque order tomorrow, along with a step by step if possible.

OK I am doing this tomorrow. I am picking up the head gasket set, which includes them all. Timing chain guides tensioners and gears. I already did the chain and guides on my other SOHC. So I have a head up on that. ANy one wanna help me/ Any tips, hints, tricks.

Drain everythingPretty much unbolt the accessoriesremove the valve cover(Do I have to remove the camshafts to get to the head bolts or can I just remove the chain, unbolt the bolts and lift it off (Making it sound real easy)

Anything other than just slap the new gasket on the head and torque it.

Any help, Please.

Download this please before you do anything. This is the only writeup you will need.

Thats the service manual for the SOHC.

Find the section that talks about headgasket replacement and read it over a few times before even doing anything.I find that familiarizing yourself with the process before actually doing it makes things go alot smoother. Follow torque specs as well.

Good luck.,

you only need to unbolt the power steering pump, and the pulley on the other side of the head that the PS belt runs on.

...unless you are doing a new timing chain as well

This has been covered on the Nissan mechanic forum many times....do a search on that forum and you will find many excellent tips on how to do it. I just had mine done by a mechanic, he took a shortcut which I think is kind of cool, instead of taking most of the top apart before getting to the gasket, they took the hood off and just disconnected all the bottom part of the block and hoses, etc, therefore lifting the complete assy using a chain and pulley....saved him some time...

It's a headache. I hate haynes and chiltons for any car made. I had one and it has 3-5 different cars in it. Pulled some strings at local nissan dealer and got their shop manual. It was a god-send
