Trapped 111mph last night on my first run. On the second run, the headgasket broke, or at least I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

Anybody got any recommendations on a good aftermarket headgasket, perhaps a thicker one, or is the Nissan piece best?

I would probally go with Cometic, I have good things about this piece on the KA. And Awesome trap speed.

The time was 13.55. I really need some tires for a better time.

We poured acetone in the muffler and set it on fire with a MAP torch. lol

Thanks for the advise on the cometic. I'll look into that.

Where would one go to get a Cometic head gasket?

Better than just replacing the head gasket, look into what caused the failure. ~300whp/14psi isn't enough to cause a headgasket failure by itself. I would look into pre-ignition as the culprit.

I wouldnt doubt it althought I've never heard any predet in the engine. After replacing the HG, I'll definitly hook up the e-manage timing stuff and tune safer next time.

14psi. They 'fit' right in, but I remember having to do some modifications to the connectors to make them work (electrical connectors I mean)

I'd just clip the injector plugs from whatever car you get the injectors from... I also saw some of these in the junkyard on some impreza and they do look identical. Even said JECS I believe.

If this is a stock block, then you can almost be assured that it was ring lands, NOT a blown HG.

The HG will withstand a ton of detonation, the pistons will not...FYI.

So before you buy something, determine the actual broken part.

I agree. Thats why I say it was pre-ignition.

Do a leak-down and listen for air hissing. Also check the overflow tank for black specs and see if there is oil coming from the valvecover breather.

Good idea. unfortunatly its nearly impossible to get an air compressor to the car (its parked at a friend's apt). Maybe i can get ahold of a little air tank and do it that way.

Sucks that my knowledge of fixing internals is, to say the least, limited. My motors have always held together. Guess you gotta learn sometime!.

Thanks for the suggestions. I pray its a head gasket

Trap is the speed at which, in this case the car is moving when it's at the end of the 1/4 mile.

Trap speed=indicator of the car's power.ET=how well the car was driven/set up.
