I replaced the head gasket on my 1991 240SX was getting water in block. while we were at changed out all wires, plugs, vacuum hoses, generally changed about all rubber hoses. Of course sent block to local machine shop to make sure no cracks etc. after it was all back together started right up purred like a baby and a week later had water in the block. I have had many theories proposed from the timing chain gasket was bad to the timing chain got loose and put small hole in block. I have no idea any one have an idea.

I don't really know about KA very well but my RB20 has coolant passages on the Intake (runners). Doesn't hurt checking it out!

And be VERY careful with the timing chain... a friends tensioner broke and his chain got jammed on the bottom of front case and the crank cog pulled and snapped both chains... he broke both cams, pistons kissed valves, the cam seats were destroyed, piston slap on cyl walls and there's a huge scratch to it... A huge mess, not even worth fixing it... :(
That was the only time I cracked a KA24 open.

Hope it helps!

It kind of sounds like maybe the head bolts weren't to spec. I assume you followed the sequence when installing them. I would definitely check if they're still to spec.

Is water getting into the cylinders, or the engine oil?

If water is getting into cyl 1 check the intake mani the water neck is right next to it with about 1/4" gasket area between it. I had a hell of a time with the same thing and that's what it was
