hey i have a s14 w/ sr20 and gt2871r with supporting mods, and im trying to make more power with the responsive 2871r, like codyace, im want to make 400whp or more.

i know im gonna need cams and other parts to get there, before i heard about codyace 400whp sr20, i wanted to do a head solid lift conversion with Tomei parts mostly so i could rev a lot higher.

So now im between jim wolf s3 or solid lift tomei.

please help me decide.

thanks in advance

Tomei 260 Solid Cams should be more aggressive than JWT's.

Drifterprodigy is right the solid tomei units would be more aggressive and give u the option of going alot higher in the rpm range. however as explained in ilikemy240's incredible write up the only real downsides to solid adjusters is having to re-shim every 5k or so. so really u have to ask urself is the hassle of maintainence worth the gain and the money? i personally don't think u can put a price on ensuring the reliabilty of ur top end. plus no matter what u will always have maintainence that needs to be done on ur car... this just happens to be a lil exstensive.

I thought abotu going solid....but the maintance aspects ruin it for me.

If you really decide to do anything, your best option would be new retainers, JWT springs, and JWT C1 cams. That would be he only drivetrain mod to achieve. I think those cams and maybe a 8000 redline would be the ticket to safe, reliable power.

Don't forget, RPM will make more power, but you need to do all of the little things too....the extrude honing, getting the rom tune fine tuned (although it made damn near same power peak, it made more overall power 2nd time around)...I'm now looking at adding a crank scraper and the sort....

Best of luck on the build! Anything over 350 whp with this turbo is just nutty.

so you think c1's will help me reach my goal?, i see they have a higher lift and a longer duration, but im not sure if it will be too much for my setup, i plan on getting the new Greddy intake manifold, for top end ( Scott said that would help) and then add the cams.

im trying to squeeze the most hp i can get outta this turbo, while kepping the car safe and reliable. so i can beat my buddie's soon to be t88 13b rx7.

C1's (for lack of better explaination) are the 'Race Series' version of the S3. You'll gain torque and hp all over the powerband, not just peak. I didn't get them as I didn't really feal like playing with the valvetrain on my car. If I was building the head again ( I do have a spare mmmm) I would go that route.

You're going to need to bring a ton of HP to take down an t88 car.....or hope he never has traction.

In our 2006 Formula D car we ran HKS step 1 cams, crower Valve train, , turbo manifold, 2871R, 550cc injectors, Stock bottom End, AEM , we ran 353 rwhp all season long, on very mild tuning. Just my experience with the 2871R .......

yeah thats why im trying to get at least 400whp outta my setup, plus i think that t88 is gonna have a lot of turbo lag, and he's aiming for 420~ 450whp so we'll see.

btw are c1's vtc compatible??

thanks for the help

C1 and S3 are both non VTC compliant. You don't need that anyway when you've got good cams.

I'm not doubting the 400 whp, but I would be much more realistic and assume for 350-380 to start.....
