I used to have an integra with crappy OBX coil sleeves and KYB gas shocks. The ride was harsh at best, but would have been great on the track (never tried).

In looking for a coil-over set up and I don't want to waste my money on something that is going to jar all the bolts loose in my head and my S14.

Are the 8kg/6kg (F/R) spring rates of the HE truly streetable or is it going to end up feeling as stiff as my integra? I know this has partially been covered by other posts, but everyone says it's an awesome setup. Awesome setup for the track doesnt translate into a streetable setup for obvious reasons.

Is it good for both street and track is my question?

Thanks ahead of time.

Macho guys don't need no stinking spring badges.

Studies on human body [long trips and rough roads] indicate that 150 pound inch is about it from a fatigue stand point in 8 hours.

12.0Kg/mm= 670 lb/in8.00kg/mm= 447 lb/in2.68kg/mm= 150 lb/inthink oem fronts are around 2.2 kg/mm

if you thought some KYB and OBX stuff was stiff, you shouldnt get an agressive coilover.

me? I'm game for some HE's, or even RA's.-chet

Eibachs tend to be about 15-20% stiffer than stock on the front and the rising rate progressive rears vary from stock to 0-100% more depending upon compresssion amount.

Many springs will have a 16" free length and when mounted with body weight on them decrease to half [8"]...........the cars weight and inches of static compression tell you the spring rate.

Oem goals are to have 7" of travel , 3.5" up and down to match the typical shock total travel of max 7" stroke.

Obviously stiffer shorter springs don't match oem shocks!

My goal is to have as stiff a suspension as possible without the car feeling like it's smashing through the bumps in the road instead of going over them. A stiff, well-damped ride is my ultimate goal and I'm curious to know if the HE's will provide that or if I should be looking at something softer like the HA's or the like?

I most likely won't auto-x it, but high speed stability is a must.

i wouldnt consider coilovers to ride harsh, provided they are installed correctly with a reasonable drop. they are stiff, but unless you have taken out the compliance in your suspension; replacing bushings and control arms, then the ride wont be jolting/teeth rattling. if your goal is a firm/stiff suspension, then coilovers are probably your best bet, but do not expect to drive fast, confidently, on an uneven surface.

i had a set of coilovers with 8/6kg springs, and i didnt think it was harsh, just firm. it was too stiff in the sense i couldnt really have fun driving on the roads where i live. im going with a 6/5 setup for a better compromise. springs ended up costing me 95 a piece (190 total for two rear springs), it may be a good idea to order them the first time to save money if you go that way.

if you never plan on going to the track, or it is in the back of your mind, you may want to consider a lower end model. there really isnt a need to spend the money on something that wont be utilized, money that could be spent on other suspension components. i really do not know what is out there, i stopped looking a while ago, i hear nismo s-tunes are popular for the street.

there are a few good threads on here lately for suspension setups for the street....suspension for under 1000? i think one was called. might give you some ideas of other parts you want to replace. things like bushings will add to the feel of a well damped ride.

i'm running ohlins shocks + rs*r race springs. the setup is more or less perfect for my needs: once a month track use, but mostly daily driving. rides well, not harsh at all. i'm in socal, btw. i drove a '90 240sx hatch the other day with HE's, and it didn't seem that much stiffer than my setup. i'd go with HE's.

Not everyone wants a hardcore car for the streets. If you're that person, don't buy coilovers. Simple.

im probably going with 9/7 when i get coilovers (havent decided on FLTA-1s or HE's) but i live in New Orleans, so the roads down here are CRATERED worse than the moon, no lie, but i dunno how much to lower the car with such bad potholes. I'll take a little handle compromise to save my oil pan
