In the last few weeks my transmission has been giving me problems mainly with 2nd gear . 2nd gear goes in fine and it engages properly but when I do 1st to second, there is a fairly loud clunking sound and a crunch. Its not a grind but I can feel it in the shifter. going from 3rd to second is fine. The noise doesnt however come when I go 1st then neutral then 2nd; like moving the stick right then going back down to 2nd. Sometimes when I go really slowly from 1st to 2nd it doesnt grind but that is me going 1st then slowing down a little when I engage the clutch then go into 2nd. Also there is clunking going in to all of the gears, but this doesnt happen all of the time. Maybe one in every 3 instances. The sound isnt as loud as the 2nd gear problem but is audible. Im not sure if anyone is having this problem or had it before. Again, it doesnt grind at all but it makes a noise that isnt normal. I have rarely from the time it started happening go directly from 1st to 2nd.
The car is a 96 NA with 120k. I recently replaced the bushings with a set of oem plastic ones. New oem transmission mount and replaced trans and diff oil with redline synthetic. All under 300 miles.
Im not sure what the real problem is, but im hoping it may be something smaller like the shifter instead of something inside the transmission.
