I've been having trouble starting my 84 2x4 king cab. When it starts it runs great but every so often, now more than ever when i try to turn the engine over, the starter engages the flywheel, but never manages to turn it over. The best idea i can come up with is a new solenoid needs to be installed. Any ideas?

Does it have any grinding noises when the starter is engaged? Have it bench tested at your local parts store, they should do it for free.

No grinding, just the defined click when the starter contacts the flywheel. But i'll get it tested just in case.

U can test it urself, u just need to be careful, take the battery and ground the negative side to the motor frame then contact the post of the starter, if it turns and pushes forward its most likely ur engine.

Took the starter off today and tested it, no turning. So I took it apart and measured the brushes, all 13-10mm long so getting pretty worn. Hopefully that's it.

I do not know what parts stores are up in your area but down here in Washinton it would run you $55 american for a starter with a lifetime warranty.
