I would suspect a fuel delivery issue, either the pump or the filter, or possibly both. You could start by checking your fuel pressure, that should give you some idea as to weather the problem lies there or not.

I suppose it could be the MAF. Try unplugging it and see what happens. If it is the MAF it should at least idle ok with it unplugged.

nope not that. it has started to crank really loud now also. so i think my timing is messed up again. the history on this car is i broke an exaust valve so i took the head off and fixed it. now that i put every thing back to gether it still won't run. i still have to put a few things on like the vacume lines and the intake piping but other than that it's all complete. i have had the car for a year and a half and have not been able to drive it. i really need to get this running so i can get to colorado in june.

It's not going to run hardly at all with the intake piping removed, no air passing through the MAF = no reading. Also, those vacuum lines need to be hooked up, that'll mess with your air flow readings as well. Hook that stuff up and try again.

Where are you coming to in CO?

Well, get all that stuff hooked up and try again. I know for a fact that they'll barely run with the intake disconnected. My 240 is awaiting a rb25 transplant at the moment, but the MG is in good form. I take it up to FtC to do a little cruising every now and again.

update: i changed the fuel filter. now i can start it still won't stay running but if i hold the accelorator in just a little it will rev to 2500 rpm and act like a govener is kicking in. basicly won't rev any higher. is that vacume lines or electronics?

Check your Idle Air Control Valve. Could be sticking slightly closed causing the low RPM idle.

Either replace it or clean it. Just use some carb cleaner to clean up the gunk that may have built up in there. If cleaning it doesn't work, replace it.
