We could throw out guesses all day, or you could take a few minutes to read what codes triggered your check engine light and know for sure? One way is much more accurate than the next.

When you floor accelerator during cranking you are signalling ecu to shut off fuel because you want the equivalent of choking a carbeurator on a flooded engine.

So help us by giving us a maintenance history and a report of condition.

Having the same issue right now... although i usually don't have to hit the gas to start the vehicle, but often enough.

My problem is that the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is going bad.

The car struggles to stay on or start. The car shut off on me in the middle of the intersection while making a left turn.

I cleaned the MAF, worked well for a little bit. Eventually I have to replace it. Right now I have hooked up the K&N Air Intake and thats whats keeping it from turning off or idling low.

Could mean gas is getting past the injector O-rings. That was the case on my Maxima.
