Please read completely before you delete or flame this thread,

I need help deciding what to do.

So I have a 92 Q45 with a complete 96 drive train. ECU, TCU, engine harness, engine, and transmission are from a 96. So no early tensioner problems, more desirable trans, reg is paid in full, etc.

The rear rotors and pads are toast, the hood is toast, the front fenders have fixable dents, The motor mounts need replaced again, replace the sun roof(have new part), and the car needs smogged.

I have listed the car for 1500 but am asking in emails for no less than 1150. The car is co-owned with a OR by a friend and I and we have 1150 in the 96 parts alone so that is what we have decided is a reasonable price for what it is. We have had 2 hits on the car that KBB lists for 3K+. The car comes with TONS of extra parts ta-boot. The 2 hits Ive had have flaked or ultra low balled me at 900 or less. Which might be reasonable.

SO...Im contemplating buying the car out from my friend and fixing the current issues. Replace the front bumper, fenders, and hood. Replace the motor mounts, Smog it, put the sun roof in. And finally fix the rear brakes.Would it be worth 2300 after that?

BTW I tried selling the car as a parts car for just the 96 stuff and still no hits.

I need some input as to what is worth my time and how I should go about offing the thing. Keeping the car is not an option. I cant afford the insurance and gas to drive it to school.

Thanks guys

Ray

If it is not a beauty mechanically and cosmetically, it probably will not sell.

If you could, would you use it as a daily driver? If so, for how much?

I think you should sell it "as is" because no matter how much more you put into it you will only get around that much unless you fix the body and make it look presentable.

To me that seems like a great price I mean you only want what you put in to it and nothing more.

But why go with 1996 Q45 parts?

It doesn't happen often but I've got to agree with Brian on this one.

You live in the land of $200-$500 Q45's (the Bay Area). Right now there's a beauty for $500 with a blown engine in Pittsburg and an engine/transmission packaged on a pallet for $300 here in Sacramento. I know you want to get your money out of it but with the amount of work it needs anyone that is buying it to fix her would jump on the duo I just spoke about before your Q.

If you need the cash right now take the $900 offer it's still out there. It was a generous one. If not, part it out and sell the parts in our Infiniti Parts forum. There's about $2000 in parts but the money is not going to flow in overnight. It will happen over many months. I've parted out 3 Q's and sold all the parts through NICO. It's been a lot of fun. If you're a good seller you'll always have spending money in your pocket and a healthy balance in your PayPal account.

Trying to sell an old Q with todays fuel prices is about as difficult as trying to sell a condo in Galveston this week.

May want armorall it up, put a low price in the window, and park in front of the local highschool.....plenty of suckers get taken by shiny paint/v8/low price and have no idea the true running costs

I think you'd be able to sell if it was better cosmetically. The guy that bought my BMW basically ignored the issues it had because it had really nice paint and a nice interior.

I went with the 96 stuff to get the better injectors, timing chain guides werent an issue, and all the 96's I drove got better fuel mileage, not to mention they start off in 1st gear and the 92 started off in 2nd gear. I think from what Ive read the changes were in 94, but I found the 96 parts car so I went with that.

You aught to part it out if you really cant sell it.

We did it to a 98 Q and we got about $5000 out of it. There are lots of people who want parts off of them.

I just moved and I dont have a place to be doing the parting out thing anymore. I use to do it with Datsun Z cars all the time. I moved up here and there isnt a spot. IF the car is worth so much parting it out why has no one taken me up on the offer of a parts car?

I found a set of original rotors within spec at the wrecking yard so Im going to go turn them and put them on with new pads and see if anyone bites, if not Im going to drive it up here to Sac and relist it in this area.

I can pop the front fender dents out, but Im going to have to find another hood. There was one here at the local PNP but someone was nice enough to fold it in half just to get it out of there way to pull the COP cover on the driver side leaving all the ignitors and coils in tact... They took the MAF.

I will be sure to ask 2500 for the car if I can find the front body parts. Ill smog it and relist it I guess.

Thanks guys.

I was able to get a pair of OEM rotors that are well within spec for the rear, so I shelled out for the rear pads. So I can fix that. It costs me $60 for everything, which is a steal. I also picked up the motor mounts. I can rip that cross member out in about an hour. So 2.5 hours of work to do that.

Im on the hunt for a hood and driver side fenders. Im going to have to make a thread asking about the hood I think... My car has had some interesting custom repairs to the hood.

Hopefully I run across someone that will be interested in the car as I go. Ray
