Hell all,

So I decided to replace my valve cover gaskets and spark plugs on my 97 QX4, let me tell you, I'll never do that again, I didn't know it was going to be so hard (for me) too many cable, hoses, etc... Still, i got everything back together. But now it's running a little bid ruff.

Things I did:

I replaced the spark plugs, the ones I got at the auto part were NGK V-Power, but I noticed that the ones I took off the truck were NGK platinum. I called the local infiniti service department and they told me that the NGK V-Power were factory replacement; true? But no idea if this is the problem.

I also removed the distributor cap, but didn't touch anything inside; did I mess something up removing it? Does the time needs to be adjusted?

Also, My idle its crazy now, I was reading something about idle relearn, but they only thing I found was the 2001 procedure; I follow that one and it worked only for a few hours, then idle got crazy again.

And last, its shifting gears really hard ( I think is cuz the rev/idle is high?).

I would really appreciate you guys help/advise.

Something's not hooked up right. Get the FSM and check. Or find a buddy with the same truck and
park them side by side and start comparing.

Also make sure that the throttle cable is letting the throttle close all the way.

Can you define "crazy idle" better?

The idle is just higher than normal around 1500 or so,,, also, any ideas why would it'll be shifting so hard. I'm also noticing like its taking a while to shift gears.

I understand, I took lots of pictures before I took it apart so I'll double check everything. But, Does anyone know if the V-Power spark Plugs are ok? I got told they were factory. Also, If I removed just the distributor cap, does it needs to have the "time" re-adjust?

Thanks you.

Look in your owner's manual. It will tell you what the right plug is.

Just wanted to say that I fixed the problems. Searching various topics in this and other forums, I found out that sometimes inside the distributor under the rotor metal shavings accumulate (especially if you took it out for some reason like I did) and cause all kind of problems like higher idle, jerking, and hard gear shifting. Well, I opened back up, cleaned everything and vuala..... runs perfect.... :rotfl

Now I need to figure out my big oil leak.... :frown:
