I am having a nismo lsd (w/o OE LSD) installed. The dealership first said they could install it no problem but after i dropped my car off they called me and told me they couldn't do it right then. They said that there was some sort of washer or shim that the needed for setting the preload or something like that. I talked to a few different people and the told me different things.

They also said something about having to get 13mm bolts instead of 12 mm, thats mentioned in the instructions but its not clear enough for me to know exactly whats up.

I ended up talking to the manager about what was going on and they said they would look into getting the parts that are needed and call me back when they have more info.

Should i have them install it or should i find someone else. Does anyone know what these parts are they are talking about. I am having some serious doubts about them and don't want to risk having them mess it up.

the bearings they are talking about are very important to the life and function of the lsd, they need to be done correctly by a shop that knows what they are doing, its not just a plug and play install. i would just give them the time they need, as it may take a while, but will pay off in the long run

Im not worried about the time it takes. It's not my daily driver 240 so i can leave it at the shop, and i told them that. I just want to make sure that the know what they are talking about. I would have thought something like that would be included in the kit.

the bearing clearances arnt "set", they need to be matched and fit for your differential, kind of like replacing bearings in your engine

Okay, that makes more sense. There were a bunch of different sizes that could be ordered and they said the had to measure once the diff was apart and then order them. Any idea about the 13 mm bolts. It says something about the bolts included are for 12 mm cars don't use them in 13mm cars.

Thanks for the info

i just thought of another question. They said the could measure for them once they took my stock differential apart. Wouldn't they have to put in the LSD first and then measure, or can they get that from the stock diff?

Thanks

I would bet they are refering to the length of the bolt. The LSD case is thicker in most cases and requires a longer bolt.

unfortunatley that is a write up for rebuilding a lsd that is already installed so it doesn't help me too much. Thanks for the info anyway.
