so my and my friend try to install a new fuel pump into my 91 240sx. it takes us forever to get the pump out. we noticed that the new pump doesn't have the red/pink hose that goes from the pump into the gas.but then we noticed it said on the paper that red hose is not needed on the new pump. so we install everything right, red wire with red, and black with black. and hook everything, the car doesnt' start, fuse blown.we check the wires ont he pump again incase of shortage, nothing is wrong, we replacedt he fuse and it blew again. iam guessing hte pump has something faulty inside of it?we also checked the two main lines, lines spitting and pulling gas, there no pressure i didnt' feel anything on them, does that mean the fuel pump we got is dead? could the relay be bad? it was working fine.we also went to Nissan to see how much their pumps are, about 385 for a fuel pump. are they supposed to be that much.

any help will be appreciated

You can get replacement pumps for a lot less than that. I believe Walboro actually sells a pump that has a lower flow rate and works well with the stock motor. It should be around $100.

As far as blowing the fuse, If the wires are not touching and shorting in the tank( you can check this by simply looking at and looking for rub marks/bare wire. You can also disconnect the pigtail going into the tank and try replacing the fuse. If it blows with the pigtail disconnected then you know you have a short somewhere else. And yes it is possible to get a bad pump.

i see, because the old pump was working fine before we tried to install the replacment. the only reason iam changing the pump is because iam getting another KA into the car and thought might as well change it. but i bought another pump from an auto store, they're supposed to get it tomrow. the brand is CARTER, never heard of that, it was 92 buks though, we'll see how that goes.
