Almost any car [even the hybrid electrics] will do 100 mph so the cars ability is no excuse..Many trucks and Ford Expedition/Explorer are limited to 97-99 mph because of tires. But I'll bet 180 mph Porsche owners get fewer tickets than rice rocket owners.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but were you going 77 or was the SUV going 77? or were you both going 77?

I've had more trouble with the police since I bought my J than I had in my previous 20 odd years of drivng. The ability of the J30t to handle speed is its siren song. Three tickets :( and one very close call. Beware of the beauty beckoning you onto the rocks of traffic court.

Speeding tickets aside, be thankful for your Infiniti. I wouldn't give up my Q for 20 tickets.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge 4 cylinders slow, yes its true in the American case but look at Nissan's, the 240 alone is a remarkable sports car and it even keeps up with my J. But I know the point you were making that if you might have had an Eclipse there would be no point in even trying to keep up with a speeding car.

I've been lucky! In 12 years of owning Q's, I have had three tickets over those years (touch wood!). Each ticket was for lower than I have driven the car at times!

Thanks (for many close call saves) to Cincinnati Microwave and Valentine Research!

Just got my second ticket on my Q last monday doing 81 in a 70. No big deal, just frustrating because it was quite a waste of my time. I have 8 speeding tickets but only have one on my record. That's the beauty of working for a law firm for 4 years and knowing practically every dang judge in your county on a friendly basis. :)

By the way, ALWAYS ask to see the radar if the officer hands you the ticket. By then, you know you already got the ticket and he's not letting you off and if he can't show you the radar he can't prove ****e in court.

13 years of licensed driving got my first two tickets ever in the Q in a weekend trip (maryland/Jersey). I broke my rule (and my caravan of friends left me) Jersey is easy. But in any state never leave on a long trip early in the morning when the new shift starts donut and milked up. The other I was in a pack. I should have asked to see the radar. Still this is a great record. V1 better keep it like that or I'll be $400 richer!

I tried that once and was told that he was "pacing" me... then accused me of questioning his education later on. Eventually it was reduced to a non-point "cutting corners" ticket after I paid an attorney to talk to him. Who know's how I cut through a parking lot on I-126, but what the hell...

I was oh-so-upset to hear that this jerk got fired a few years later for supposedly sexually assualting someone he stopped.

Man thats what I love about FL or at least our county, its so big that the tickets they do give out mean nothing to them and when you fight them you get out of it 90% of the time. Usually when I have to get a lawyer to take care of it, it only cost half of what the ticket did.

I know how you feel man. I love my J30T and it just feels so smooth when driving that it is hard not to speed. I always find myself driving about 60 in a 45. Just last night i got away from a cop when he turned around because I was going too fast. It may be a car that attracts tickets but its a nice one.

I hope that members are not driving without good quality radar detectors. Let them pick off the easy ones, not you. This is true especially for staes such as New Jersey that have hunderds of local police forces. I drove about 8-9 miles to my old job, through 4 towns, and the V1 would pick up 6 speed traps on the way. Got me once in 6 years.

I heard that getting pulled over with a radar detector can cost you more........

I read an article about speeding tickets, and they will most likely let you off easier if you admit that you were speeding or doing whatever.........

Also, this is an observation (but not confirmed), but I have observed the more speed limit signs you see the more they enforce it......... Country roads where I live may only have them once every 10 miles...... but there is this road in a really small town, just big enough to have a 3 person police force, and there is a speed limit sign every 1/10 mile....... And there is a cop sitting on that road once every week, if not more.......

I have been to court more times than I care to admit, but luckily my good friend is a Traffic Citation Lawyer and takes care of all of my tickets.

His advice to me:

- It is not what you did, it is what they can prove, whatever you do never admit that you were speeding because that is what they need to enter as an admission of guilt. That is why they always ask "Do you know how fast you were going?" or "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

- Be polite, say as little as you can and do nothing memorable, no fakey stories or beligerence. If they are not able to come to court to fight the ticket in person, they are able to write an affidavit on the back of the ticket to serve as their testimony. If you do something very memorable or tick them off, they have more incentive to write a detailed account of what happened and it will be there waiting for you to defend yourself against in court.

- Always contest it and always subpoena the officer. They have to attend or provide a testimony if subpoena'd and if they do not then the judge can choose to throw it out (not always, but enough % of the time to make it worth doing every time).

- If you have the means, get a lawyer and fight every ticket. There are tons of discrepancies and loopholes on every ticket used by police officers today and can often be dismissed on a technicality.

These things are generally true no matter what state you are in, sometimes they work better than others. But they have always worked for me. I average 5-7 citations a year (particularly in my old 911 or my Supercharged Cobra before I got rid of it...).

Good luck,Gadget

I see a small problem with taking the ticket to court. Sure, it's a good idea to contest a ticket. Even if all you do is show up and say nothing relevant, in most cases the judge will cut you a deal. I've seen this many times, and most people know this.

I've also seen the judge look a kid in the eyes and say "So you are telling me that the officer who cited you and signed this ticket under penalty of perjury is risking his career and lying to me?"

I've seen a guy claim that a seperated tire on his car would cause a wobble at 70, and therefore he certainly could not have been speeding. The judge then explained to this man that,

A: a seperation does not limit an automobile's speed.B: only a fool wouldn't have a seperated tire replaced...C: a tread-seperated tire causes a shake at all speeds, not just freeway speeds.

Myself being a tire guy, I almost stood up and cheered the judge as he upheld the citation and the guy got no break.

It goes both ways, and if your citation goes before a judge, remember that he is looking at a signature from the cop. That signature means that he cited you legally, his radar equipment has been maintained properly, with records to prove it, and that if he's lying and just wanted to pick on you, he will face perjury. C'mon! Use common sense when driving and you can avoid unwanted meetings with law enforcement.

Back in the '70s when the Escort radar detector first came out, they were the best to be had by a long shot. I was pulled over by a cop in Connecticut when driving a Jensen Healy with an Escort (something like 80 in a 55). The cop had the perfect speed trap, I didn't have a chance.

The cop was so happy he caught an Escort that he took pictires of me and the radar detector and never gave me a ticket.

One of the stranger experiences.
