I see a small problem with taking the ticket to court. Sure, it's a good idea to contest a ticket. Even if all you do is show up and say nothing relevant, in most cases the judge will cut you a deal. I've seen this many times, and most people know this.
I've also seen the judge look a kid in the eyes and say "So you are telling me that the officer who cited you and signed this ticket under penalty of perjury is risking his career and lying to me?"
I've seen a guy claim that a seperated tire on his car would cause a wobble at 70, and therefore he certainly could not have been speeding. The judge then explained to this man that,
A: a seperation does not limit an automobile's speed.B: only a fool wouldn't have a seperated tire replaced...C: a tread-seperated tire causes a shake at all speeds, not just freeway speeds.
Myself being a tire guy, I almost stood up and cheered the judge as he upheld the citation and the guy got no break.
It goes both ways, and if your citation goes before a judge, remember that he is looking at a signature from the cop. That signature means that he cited you legally, his radar equipment has been maintained properly, with records to prove it, and that if he's lying and just wanted to pick on you, he will face perjury. C'mon! Use common sense when driving and you can avoid unwanted meetings with law enforcement.
