Im sitting here at school dreaming about getting my car out of storage and I have a question. Yes, I did attempt what you people call a "search" and couldnt locate a thread with the same issue. Okay so when I turn my key in my hatch, or push on the release lever, the hatch doesnt pop up, and if I am in the car pressing the lever I need someone to pull the hatch up to open it, or lift it with the key in it to get the heavy bastard open. Is something faulty here? Simple fix? Something broken? Thanks for any positive input!

your hatch struts are probably original parts, they are old and tired. unfortunately they are not cheap. also if your car has the factory wing its not helping any. if anyone knows of a good place to get the struts please chime in.

Same here, I have to have my buddy open the hatch while I'm pulling the lever up, or vice versa. I don't think my hatch even opens with the key turned. It's rather annoying when I'm alone, I need to use my iPod to hold the lever up while I open it. Haha. The lock might be a problem for me as well but I'm getting Kouki tail lights so that should fix the lock problem. Hopefully I can open it with the key instead of having to hold the lever up. >_>

I too have this problem, but I'm only going to do something about it if I have a money surplus and nothing better to do with it. That is not the case.

I think the cable in your car might have come disconnected from the mechanism?

I used to have this problem but it mysteriously went away, lol. Like seriously it just started working one day.

I used to have to prop up the lever. A used lint brush (roller type) works great to prop the handle.

But now I just pull the handle. The hatch doesn't move at all, I just have to squish my fingers between the hatch & taillights and pull up. Works fine.

But yeah, idk why you would have to lift it with your key. That could easily break the lock. Just fit your fingers in between the hatch and the taillights.

Alright so I'mma put it to you like this. My car has been rear ended before. And I had the same problem with everything that you explained. I had to have someone open the hatch for me. After I got my frame pulled, I also fixed the latch in the back. To adjust it so it would pop again. Simple fix. Just play with a few bolts back in the hatch where it meets the latch to pop. You should be able to find the problem. Could be that the hatch is misaligned with the latch causing it not to pop open like factory standards. Hope this helps!

Funny how ppl on this thread used their IPODS, glass case, and anything to hold up that darn lever. Personally I used my remote for my Pioneer head unit. Worked like a charm. Use to piss me off tho when I would wedge the remote there and my door would slam shut and smack the remote outta place. I was like . Ppl would look at me and be like what is he doing???? Seriously, felt like my car was playing games with me.

Well I don't have to worry about that anymore. Use to be annoying. But then again, it's just one of those things that 240 owners go through.

Wicked, thanks for the info. I will give this a shot next weekend when I get to drive my car for the 1st time this year!

Haha and if another 240 guy seen this he would just laugh and know EXACTLY what is going on. Too funny

Yeah there are two 10mm's holding the part where the latch locks against. Just move it down a little and it'll pop up. You just gota remove the plastic trim in the way. No biggie.

Exactly the same way for me. I tried for weeks to figure out the problem, and one day I pulled the lever and it went POP. I love when problems fix themselves like that.

Probably wrong key or the key latch from the inside is messed up or jammed. Open your hatch peep inside and see if you can't loosen it up with some WD-40. Solves everything!

Struts are not that much. Like 14 or 20 bucks for a set. But I wouldn't buy them unless I really need them. You'll know that you'll need them once you hatch is smacking you in the head when your placing groceries in your hatch. Fo sho!!!

S14's are sex on wheels. Reminds me so much of an R33. The front end is sleek. I definitely would be satisfied with an S14. A 240 is a 240. WORD!!! :dblthumb:
