Well i finally have an engine problem. If i get to high rpm (~4K) and drop into neutral the rpm will drop way past idle and the engine will die. this is pretty troublesome since my driving style tends to lean towards neutral before lights etc. strange thing is if i use the brakes the rpm will stay low but not kill the engine.

I'm leaning towards a vacuum problem(improperly sealed or severed hose)...which now that i think of it is most likely my brake booster...

on a side note Modification and recent maintenance:

Nismo CAI - now just half of the piping with a hearty sized K&NMAF - Cleaned it after changing old filter....added a million horsepower but did not affect the rpm drop.

bah any ideas would be great thanks!

Sounds like a vaccum problem. Check the intake and make sure everything is hooked up and tight.

Is there any type of vacuum hose assembly sealant? I feel like i should put a thin layer of something on the hose to make a semi permanent seal.

Also the air filter has much more surface area than the previous Nismo. Is it possible that the decreased restriction could have affected the baseline engine load at idle? Just a thought.

Is the intake the only mod you currently have?

this is very similar to a comon issue ont he Z32, the issue ont he Z32 is the aicv, but it's my understandign taht the Z33 uses driveby wire tps to do this, and that the ecu and tps on other driveby wire cars can be recalibrated at ta dealer to correct similar issues

Any idea if this is a recalibration to stock spec or a way to compensate for another fault? for example a crappy idle on a bike can be corrected by increasing the idle speed. the engine wont die but the problem will still be there.

the biggest problem now is that im stuck at work when i need to get under that hood

I've not done anything in a drive by wire system myself but my understanding is it's a matter of syncing the tps with the ecu, if thats it it just a takes a few minutes on the computer but it requires the dealers service computer, might be able to do ti with another scan tool but the peoplee I know are dealer tech's

Holy crap what a goldmine! I can't wait to try these out! Well, while you guys may have found the solution. i was under the hood listening, poking, prodding and cursing. I even stuck a screw driver under the throttle to keep it at 1.5K while i got nice n' close to everything. I am as positive as i can be without a gauge that there are no leaks. I should be able to pull those resets off before heading off to the girls place. Thanks again!

Water and soap will only tell you pressure leaks not vacuum... Think before you speak.
