I'm a percussionist and in middle schoo we had a 26 piece steel band. It rocked. we traveled around and played at different school events. it was one of the coolest things that I ever did.

Myself being a percussionist/drummer....yes they are different, I have always found the steel drums to be very intersting. How you can get different pitches from different parts of the drum. I wonder how hard it would be to learn those things. Hell, it can't be all bad. I had to learn how to play the xylophone in H/S along with typani's, chimes, and misc other percussion instruments.

If you can read music, they are actually very easy to play once u know where the notes are. they are all labeled. it can't get any eaiser than that. its all about practice.
